I’m in the Live 8 Beta Cool Kids Club!

Everyone who uses Ableton Live must know by now that Ableton is planning on releasing Live 8. As a long time Live user I’ve been overly-excited at pretty much all of the improvements that were announced. Unfortunately it is not going to be released to the public until 2nd quarter ‘09, they say.

I was lucky enough to get a preview of the software at the Live 8 demonstration session at The Dubspot in NYC. They demoed the software in all its glory, only making me more depressed at the fact that I won’t be able to use it for months. They only allow a handful of people to test the beta software at a time. I believe the phrase the Ableton rep used was, “the people who get to be involved in beta testing are the ones who sit at home in their mothers’ basements refreshing the beta invite page all day, waiting for the invite to appear.” Well, I’m proud to say I don’t live in my mother’s basement (any more), and I don’t sit around refreshing that page all day (well, not all day), yet I managed to get a beta invite today!

Just had to get that all off my chest. I’m excited to dive into Live 8, and I’ll be sure to post some updates about it on my blog.
